Luke 22:44: “And being in agony he was prying very fervently, and his sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.”

The garden of Gethsemane, near the foot of the Mount of Olives, is named in the New Testament as the place where Jesus and his disciples went to pray the night before he was crucified. The garden lies close to the natural route from the Temple to the summit of the Mount of Olives and the ridge leading to Bethany. It was here that Jesus prayed in agony, pleading with God “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Nevertheless, let it be as you, not I, would have it.” It was here that he visited by angel to console him in his agony, so great that “his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.” This unique limited-edition painting shows the tranquil, peaceful garden where Jesus spent his last night before his crucifixion in prayer and contemplation.
